Crypton Future Media in cooperation with YAMAHA,
has developed a gadget, "Pocket Miku," that can do just this. Using a
stylus and a carbon keyboard, you can hear Hatsune Miku's voice sing the
syllables of the solfège ("do-re-mi fa-so-la," etc.). Five buttons will
also play the five Japanese vowels, and a long "shift" button lets you
select a famous Miku song preloaded onto the device. Additional buttons
let you change volume, add vibrato, or adjust the octaves to add
richness to Miku's performance.
Pocket Miku goes on sale April 3 as a special supplement to the magazine Otona-no Kagaku ("Science for Adults"). It will sell for 4,980 yen (or about $49, tax not included).
